WHERE GRONINGEN BEGINS
Hotel Corps de Garde is located in an authentic historical building in the Oude Boteringestraat. In the seventeenth century, it served as a guardhouse for the military and city watch for the protection of the city. For no less than 5,780 florins, carpenter Berent Geerts’ design became a reality. In the eighteenth century, the gable end was replaced by a cornice, which can still be clearly seen today. In the early 2000s, the building was given the poetic nickname ‘de krijgsmacht op kolommen’ (the army on columns) while Stadjers (inhabitants of Groningen) called it ‘Kortegaard’ (corruption of Corps de Garde). After a large renovation in 2021, the building was transformed into a boutique hotel in which its centuries-old elements meet our colourful modern life.
